Two-time Academy Award® winner Renée Zellweger reprises the role that made her a beloved romantic-comedy icon, portraying a woman whose unique approach to life and love redefined the genre for generations.
Bridget Jones first captured the world’s imagination in Helen Fielding’s literary sensation Bridget Jones’s Diary, which became a global bestseller and a successful film. A single woman navigating her career in London, Bridget not only shared her romantic misadventures but also introduced terms like “Singletons,” “Smug-Marrieds,” and “f---wittage” to the popular lexicon. Despite her struggles, Bridget eventually triumphed, marrying top lawyer Mark Darcy and becoming a mother to their son. Finally, happiness seemed within reach.
However, in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Bridget finds herself alone once more. Widowed four years ago after the death of Mark (Oscar® winner Colin Firth) during a humanitarian mission in Sudan, Bridget is now a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel. She is stuck in an emotional limbo, leaning on her loyal friends and even her former lover, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), for support.
With pressure mounting from her “Urban Family” — including Shazzer, Jude, Tom, work colleague Miranda, her mother, and her gynecologist Dr. Rawlings (Oscar® winner Emma Thompson) — to move forward in both life and love, Bridget returns to work and even dips into the world of dating apps. There, she quickly catches the eye of a charming younger man (Leo Woodall from White Lotus). As Bridget juggles work, motherhood, and romance, she faces the judgment of the perfect mums at school, worries about Billy’s struggle with his father’s absence, and experiences a series of awkward encounters with her son’s overly rational science teacher (Oscar® nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor).
The returning cast includes Oscar® winner Jim Broadbent and BAFTA winner Gemma Jones as Bridget’s parents. New to the ensemble is Isla Fisher (Now You See Me, The Great Gatsby) as Rebecca, Bridget’s new neighbour.
The film was a massive success in cinemas, making an estimated £35million.
