Who is returning to EastEnders tonight?

It comes as new Executive Producer Ben Wadey marks his first episode on charge. Rumours have been building since last week, when the BBC revealed tonight’s episode wouldn’t drop on BBC iPlayer this morning, and instead, fans would have to wait until 7.30pm tonight to find out what happens.

That was followed by a number of new promo’s which tease a return to the Square. They come with the tagline “blink, and you’ll miss it”.

So who is returning to EastEnders tonight?

The big money is on Zoe Slater, after it was reported in the press that the character was returning to Albert Square for the first time since 2005. And her return would certainly make sense, given the big Kat and Alfie Moon storyline which is currently playing out.

Beyond that though, there’s also huge speculation that Max Branning is coming back. Max’s return would send shockwaves through the Square, likely setting up a number of big stories to play out over the next twelve months.

It’s also been reported very recently that Ben Mitchell is coming back, after new producer Ben Wadey gave him a reprieve following his swift axing last year. And as ever, Ronnie and Roxie Mitchell are in the mix, with die-hard fans desperate to see them back on the soap.

There are other names who it could be though; Shirley Carter is set to return to Albert Square at some point this year - is it tonight? Or could it be somebody completely unexpected?
