Warwick Davis to reprise role in new Harry Potter series
Warwick Davis has been confirmed as the first original Harry Potter cast member to reprise his role in HBO’s eagerly anticipated television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world.
The actor, beloved for his portrayal of charms master Professor Filius Flitwick in the original films, will once again don the robes of the diminutive but brilliant Hogwarts professor. Davis also originated the role of Griphook the goblin in the movie franchise, though in the small-screen retelling that character will be played by actor Leigh Gill.
The announcement came during Monday’s Back to Hogwarts celebration, which also revealed new cast members including Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, and William Nash as Gregory Goyle.
They join an ensemble that already features Hollywood heavyweight John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Bertie Carvel has been cast as Cornelius Fudge, while Johnny Flynn will portray Lucius Malfoy. Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will play Harry’s Muggle relatives Petunia and Vernon Dursley.
Davis’s return is particularly notable given his deep ties to the franchise. Beyond Flitwick and Griphook, the actor has long been celebrated for his versatility across fantasy cinema, from Star Wars to Willow. For many fans, his reappearance brings a direct thread of continuity between the original films and the new HBO series.
The show, which is currently in production, is set for release in 2027. UK audiences will be able to watch via Sky TV and streaming service NOW, while HBO will carry the series in the United States.
