The Lost Bus
Where to Watch: Select cinemas and Apple TV Plus
The Lost Bus, an intense and emotionally charged rescue drama directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Greengrass, is set to hit select theaters and Apple TV+ in fall 2025. The film, inspired by true events, follows a stranded school bus during one of America’s deadliest wildfires, as a wayward bus driver (Matthew McConaughey) and a committed school teacher (America Ferrera) race against time to save 22 children from a devastating blaze.
Written by Greengrass and Brad Ingelsby, The Lost Bus is based on Lizzie Johnson’s book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. Johnson also serves as an executive producer on the film. The project came to life after Jamie Lee Curtis heard Johnson’s story on NPR, read the book, and brought it to Blumhouse Productions, where she has a first-look deal. The film is produced by Ingelsby, Gregory Goodman, Jason Blum, and Curtis herself through Comet Pictures.
Joining McConaughey and Ferrera is a supporting cast that includes Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, and Spencer Watson, adding depth to the gripping story of heroism and survival.
The Lost Bus promises a white-knuckle cinematic experience, blending Greengrass’ signature tension with a powerful, human story of courage and resilience.
Release date: 19 September 2025 in select cinemas & Apple TV Plus from 3 October 2025.
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, America Ferrera, Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson.
