The Conjuring: Last Rites – This weekend's cinema choice
Horror enthusiasts have a big-screen treat waiting for them this weekend as The Conjuring: Last Rites arrives in cinemas. The film marks the ninth installment in the hugely successful Conjuring universe, which has grossed more than $2 billion worldwide.
Directed by franchise regular Michael Chaves, the film promises to deliver the scares and suspense that have made the series a modern horror classic. Longtime producers James Wan and Peter Safran are once again behind the project, ensuring continuity in both vision and atmosphere.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return for what is being billed as their final outing as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. This closing chapter sees the pair face one last terrifying case, blending supernatural horror with the emotional weight of their characters’ journey.
The film also brings in Mia Tomlinson and Ben Hardy as Judy Warren, the Warrens’ daughter, and her boyfriend Tony Spera. Familiar faces join them, including Steve Coulter reprising his role as Father Gordon, alongside a strong supporting cast featuring Rebecca Calder, Elliot Cowan, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, John Brotherton and Shannon Kook.
The screenplay comes from Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, with the story crafted by Johnson-McGoldrick and James Wan. Behind the camera, Chaves collaborates with a seasoned creative team, including cinematographer Eli Born, production designer John Frankish, and editors Elliot Greenberg and Gregory Plotkin. Composer Benjamin Wallfisch returns to score the film, ensuring its haunting atmosphere is matched by a powerful soundtrack.
With its mix of real-life inspiration, returning stars, and signature frights, The Conjuring: Last Rites looks set to be an unmissable cinema experience – and a fitting finale for one of the most successful horror franchises in film history.
