ITV has unveiled a striking set of first-look images from its upcoming thriller Secret Service, captured on location in Malta during the early weeks of production.
Set amidst the historic harbours and labyrinthine streets of Valletta, the images offer a tantalising preview of the scale and intensity of the five-part series — a high-stakes political drama fronted by Gemma Arterton (Funny Woman, The Critic).
Shot this spring in both Malta and London, Secret Service is adapted from the novel by ITV News anchor Tom Bradby, and produced by acclaimed indie outfit Potboiler Productions.
Directed by Oscar-winner James Marsh (Man on Wire, The Theory of Everything), the series boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Rafe Spall, Alex Kingston, Mark Stanley, Roger Allam, Amaka Okafor, Aoife Hinds, Avi Nash, Alma Prelec, and Khalid Abdalla.
Rooted in the shadowy world of espionage, Secret Service unfolds amid rising tensions between the UK and Russia. At its heart is senior MI6 officer Kate Henderson (Arterton), who is thrust into a dangerous investigation when evidence emerges suggesting a senior UK politician may be a Russian mole. As her loyalty is tested and her future hangs in the balance, Kate must navigate the murky intersection of global politics, personal sacrifice, and fractured trust.
Executive producers Gail Egan (Funny Woman, A Most Wanted Man, The Little Stranger) and Andrea Calderwood (The Buccaneers, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind) helm the project for Potboiler Productions.
The series was commissioned by ITV’s Director of Drama Polly Hill, with Huw Kennair Jones serving as Drama Commissioner. All3Media International co-commissions and handles worldwide distribution.
Secret Service is slated to premiere in 2026 across ITV1, STV, ITVX, and STV Player.
