Dept Q gets second season on Netflix
Dept Q is returning for a second season, Netflix confirmed today.
Despite his best efforts to the contrary, the notoriously cantankerous Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck (Matthew Goode) remains a fixture at Edinburgh’s police department—and now he’s set to return for another season of Dept. Q, the acclaimed mystery series created by Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit).
Joining him once again is the eclectic team of investigators he assembled in Season 1, including Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy. And, as always, the series’ other central character—Edinburgh itself—will serve as the backdrop for production.
“I’d like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate Dept. Q’s storylines,” Goode says in a statement to Netflix. “We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank. I cannot wait to read what comes from his magic quill!”
Adapted from Jussi Adler-Olsen’s novels, Dept. Q follows Morck and his unconventional team, based in the basement of an Edinburgh police station, as they reopen cold cases that had been written off as unsolvable. Combining dark humor with suspenseful storytelling, the series explores not only the mysteries of the crimes but also the personal complexities of the detectives themselves. Season 1 spent six weeks in Netflix’s Global Top Ten.
Matthew Goode as Carl Morck and Alexej Manvelov as Akram Salim in Dept. Q Season 1.
“We are raring to return to Carl Morck and his band of glorious misfits at Dept. Q,” Netflix executives Mona Qureshi and Manda Levin said in a statement. “Scott Frank brought us best-in-class storytelling and thrilled Netflix audiences worldwide. We can’t wait to see what Morck and the gang uncover in Season 2 … Edinburgh, we’re back.”
Fans can look forward to more details on the next cold case Morck and his team will tackle—and perhaps a slightly tidier basement this time around.
