Netflix announce new Dan Levy comedy
Dan Levy is writing a comedy drama series for Netflix, the streaming giant has announced.
Dan Levy is returning to television with a fresh project blending family dysfunction and criminal antics. Netflix has greenlit a new comedy series as part of Levy’s ongoing creative deal with the platform. The show, which has yet to be titled, centers on a pair of hopeless siblings who find themselves coerced into organized crime, promising plenty of chaos and dark humour.
The eight-episode series will feature Taylor Ortega — known for roles in Welcome to Flatch, The Four Seasons, and Another Simple Favor — alongside veteran actress Laurie Metcalf, recognized for her work in Lady Bird, Scream 2, Roseanne, and Hacks. Levy, following his feature film debut with 2024's Good Grief, is taking on multiple roles as showrunner, actor, and executive producer. This marks his second original scripted series after the success of the award-winning Schitt’s Creek. He’s joined by co-creator and executive producer Rachel Sennott, whose credits include Bottoms.
“I’m so excited to be bringing this truly chaotic family story to life with Netflix,” Levy says. “I’m thrilled with the team we’re building both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Taylor Ortega is going to become a household name, and it’s been my life’s mission to get to call Laurie Metcalf ‘mother.’ Looking forward to getting to share this with everyone.”
This project is the first scripted show to emerge from Levy’s overall deal with Netflix, representing a new phase for his company, Not a Real Production Company.
Filming is scheduled to begin later this year.
