Murder Most Puzzling starts tonight at 9pm on 5.
Think Midsomer Murders meets Ludwig, and you’ll catch the drift of this entertaining new series based on the best-selling books by American author Parnell Hall.
BAFTA-winning actress Phyllis Logan—renowned for her role as Mrs. Hughes in the acclaimed Downton Abbey—stars as Cora Felton, better known as the Puzzle Lady.
In the premiere episode, the quiet market town of Bakerbury is rocked by a chilling murder. A crossword puzzle left on the victim’s body leaves the local police stumped. With no leads and rising pressure, DCI Hooper reluctantly enlists the help of Cora Felton, a recent newcomer whose reputation as the Puzzle Lady suggests she might just hold the key to cracking the case.
As Cora dives headfirst into the investigation, she begins to stir up equal parts suspicion and admiration among the townsfolk. She forms a makeshift team that includes tenacious journalist Anton Grant—who’s equally drawn to Cora’s sharp mind and her spirited niece, Sherry—and Anton’s ex, the morally ambiguous lawyer Becky Baidwan, whose loyalties remain uncertain. Despite their inexperience, Cora’s ragtag crew proves they have no shortage of determination.
But Cora isn’t exactly who she says she is. As she digs deeper into the current case—and a chillingly similar cold case from years past—she uncovers unsettling secrets that connect the two deaths. The more she learns, the closer she gets to a dangerous truth…and the killer’s sights.
