Michael Socha and Callum Scott to star in Channel 4 thriller 'Deadpoint'.
Tense new Welsh thriller announced by Channel 4.
Channel 4 has officially announced Deadpoint, a tense five-part, hour-long action thriller that promises to combine breathtaking landscapes with nerve-shredding drama. The series follows a group of Welsh climbers whose lives are upended when they cross paths with a violent far-right faction plotting an attack in their local mountains.
The production comes from Clerkenwell Films, the multi-BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning company behind acclaimed hits such as Baby Reindeer, The End of the F*ing World, and Misfits. The series marks the debut of writer Matt Hartley, with lead direction by Marco Kreuzpaintner (The Lazarus Project, Bodies, Those About to Die) and additional episodes helmed by Laura Scrivano (Wedding Season, Alice). Filming is now underway across Wales.
Set in the rugged and unforgiving beauty of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, the drama begins with tragedy. A close-knit climbing community is shaken after a fatal accident on an expedition. Aaron, played by BAFTA-winning actor Callum Scott Howells (It’s a Sin, The Beautiful Game), blames himself for the disaster and flees abroad, leaving his sister Seren (Annes Elwy – Wolf, Little Women) behind. When Aaron reluctantly returns a year later, he is forced to face both his grief and his deep-seated fear of climbing after Seren goes missing on a routine ascent.
His search brings him face-to-face with more than just the mountains. Hidden in the same landscape is the extremist group known as the Justice Crusade, led by former soldier Fairweather, portrayed by Michael Socha (The Gallows Pole, Showtrial). Though united by ideology and a desire for belonging, the group’s stability begins to crack as Fairweather reveals his true intentions.
Christine Tremarco (The Gathering, Adolescence) also stars as Detective Natasha Evermore, who has been monitoring the Justice Crusade’s escalating activities and fears their mission may culminate in something devastating.
With multiple storylines colliding against the backdrop of Wales’ awe-inspiring peaks, Deadpoint promises a unique blend of emotional depth, social commentary, and high-stakes action. The series will explore themes of grief, radicalisation, survival, and the choices people make when pushed to their limits.
The ensemble cast is stacked with talent, including Gary Lewis (Franklin), John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Sam Keeley (Kin), Martin McCann (Blue Lights), Fflyn Edwards (The Crown), Emily Stott (Foundation), Ellora Torchia (Midsommar), Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody), Michael Jibson (No Return), Crystal Condie (Dear England), Siôn Alun Davies (Hidden), Oliver Finnegan (The Watchers), Rhodri Meilir (In My Skin), and Arthur Hughes (Shardlake).
Deadpoint was commissioned for Channel 4 by Interim Head of Drama Gwawr Lloyd, with Clerkenwell Films producing in partnership with BBC Studios. Executive producers include Andy Baker, Charlie Langdell, Wim de Greef, Petra Fried, Matt Hartley, and Marco Kreuzpaintner, alongside producer Adam Knopf and co-producer Christopher J. Thomas.
Andy Baker, Executive Producer for Clerkenwell Films, says: “We couldn’t be more excited to be making Deadpoint with C4, BBC Studios and Creative Wales. Matt’s created a gripping thriller with a depth and complexity that speaks to our very divided times, and we have a brilliant pair of directors, a fantastic crew and a truly amazing cast bringing it to life.”
Gwawr Lloyd adds: “Deadpoint is a bold and incredibly tense thriller that places characters and their journeys at the heart of high-stakes action. Matt Hartley’s debut script is as gripping as it gets and all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Eryri mountain range. We’re delighted to be working with Clerkenwell Films and the brilliant cast and crew; this series promises to be as thought-provoking as it is pulse-raising.”
Produced with the support of the Welsh Government via Creative Wales, Deadpoint will also be distributed globally by BBC Studios, ensuring the series reaches an international audience.
