Joe Wicks Takes on Ultra-Processed Food in Explosive New Documentary Licensed to Kill
Fitness guru Joe Wicks is swapping workouts for whistleblowing in a bold new one-off documentary, Joe Wicks: Licensed to Kill. The film sees Wicks team up with Dr. Chris van Tulleken, the BBC presenter and scientist known for his outspoken stance on ultra-processed foods, to launch a provocative experiment designed to spark nationwide change.
The documentary tackles one of the UK’s most pressing health crises: the country’s over-reliance on ultra-processed foods, which have been linked to 14% of premature deaths nationwide. Determined to expose the dangers hidden in everyday snacks, Wicks and van Tulleken set out to prove a shocking point — by creating what they call “the UK’s most dangerous health bar.”
Wicks’ so-called “KILLER protein bar” is packed with ingredients that scientific research has connected to serious health issues such as cancer, stroke, diarrhoea, and early death. Every one of these additives, however, is entirely legal in the UK and widely used in products that line supermarket shelves.
But Wicks doesn’t stop at making the bar — he plans to sell it to the public, forcing consumers, the media, and even the government to confront the uncomfortable reality of what’s allowed in the nation’s food supply.
With its mix of science, activism, and shock tactics, Joe Wicks: Licensed to Kill promises to be a gripping and controversial look at the UK’s relationship with processed food — and a wake-up call for lawmakers, industry leaders, and consumers alike.
Watch from 8pm tonight on Channel 4.
