Heading to Bergen? Last Monkey Cocktail Bar is a must-visit!
Tucked into one of the most vibrant parts of Bergen, Last Monkey is a stunning cocktail bar that perfectly captures the city’s lively nightlife. When we visited, the bar was nicely busy with friendly tourists and locals alike, creating a warm and welcoming buzz that instantly made the place feel special.
The ambience here is fantastic. Soft lighting, stylish décor and the hum of conversation create a relaxed yet energetic atmosphere that encourages you to linger over drinks. It’s the kind of bar where time slips by easily — and where every cocktail arriving on the bar sparks curiosity.
It’s no wonder Last Monkey has built such an incredible reputation both inside and outside of Norway.
A Bar for the Curious
Last Monkey proudly describes itself as a place for the curious, where inventive flavours meet the comfort of timeless classics. The team experiments, creates and plays with ingredients, pushing cocktail craft into new territory while still leaving space for drinks that people already know and love.
Every cocktail here tells a story — some bold, some familiar — but all made with real intention.
Located in the heart of Bergen, the bar welcomes everyone, from neighbourhood regulars who know exactly what they want to travellers discovering the city one sip at a time. Whether you’re looking to try something daring, enjoy a classic cocktail or simply soak up the atmosphere, this is the kind of place where the night begins to unfold naturally.
Exceptional Cocktails
The range of cocktails on offer is truly exceptional and easily one of the most creative menus we’ve come across.
We started with the Norwegian Cheesecake, a fascinating blend of rum, lemon, vanilla and a brown cheese mix — a uniquely Norwegian twist that worked surprisingly well and delivered a rich, slightly sweet flavour.
Next came a Mexicolada, a tequila-based cocktail featuring Cointreau, lime, coconut and egg white. Smooth, refreshing and beautifully balanced, it felt like a tropical classic reimagined with a Mexican twist.
On the bartender’s recommendation, we also tried the Violet Whisper, a striking cocktail made with Bombay Sapphire gin, vermouth, crème de violet and rhubarb liqueur. In the bar’s atmospheric lighting it looked magnificent, with delicate violet hues that made it almost too beautiful to drink — almost. On the palate it was equally impressive: floral, slightly tart and wonderfully smooth.
Each drink was presented beautifully, with real attention to detail.
Passion Behind the Bar
One of the highlights of the experience was the service. The bartender happily explained how the cocktails — and many others on the extensive menu — are crafted. It was clear that a great deal of love, creativity and passion goes into every drink served here.
That enthusiasm is contagious and adds another layer to the experience.
