David Jason is filming Open All Hours special for U&GOLD
Sir David Jason makes a return to the nation’s favourite comedy channel, U&GOLD, with Open All Hours: Inside Out (1x90’). This exclusive feature-length documentary pays tribute to one of Britain’s most cherished sitcoms and features a brand-new short scene written by original creator Roy Clarke. In it, Sir David reprises his role as Granville for the very last time, seen closing up the shop for the evening while offering a poignant look at how his life has moved on since audiences last saw him. Produced by Studio Crook, this U&Original special will premiere in 2026.
The year 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the classic series. Sir David Jason remains the only actor to have appeared in every episode of both the original show and its revival, Still Open All Hours. In the special, Sir David reflects on his personal journey with the sitcom, sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes stories along with his favourite memories of playing shopkeeper Granville. He will also be joined by fellow cast members, who share their own experiences and celebrate one of the most enduring comedies of all time.
David Jason said: ‘It’s so good to be back! I played Granville for over half my life and so this show holds a very special place in my heart. There are countless memories and stories about this show, and I am thrilled to be able to share those with everyone.’
Open All Hours: Inside Out has been commissioned by Mark Iddon, Senior Commissioning Editor, and ordered for U&GOLD by Gerald Casey, Director of Programming, and Hilary Rosen, Director of Commissioning. Matt Crook serves as Managing Director for Studio Crook, with Paul Young as Series Director and Adam McLean as Series Producer.
Mark Iddon said: “It is always a joy working with Studio Crook, especially when we are celebrating 50 years of such an iconic show. I can’t wait for U&Gold audiences to see what we have cooked up for them. Open All Hours is one of those rare beasts that even after 50 years is still as timeless and relevant as ever.”
Gerald Casey said: “Open All Hours is a classic, and part of our DNA here at U&Gold. We are thrilled to be able to give viewers more of what they love with Sir David Jason lifting the lid on some of his fondest memories on set alongside fellow cast members.”
Matt Crook, Studio Crook, added: “We are very excited to be working with UKTV once again and on one of my all-time favourite sitcoms. “Open All Hours” is a perfectly crafted show and we are working closely with the brilliant Roy Clarke and Sir David Jason to bring you a few new surprises.”
