Radio X has unveiled a line of ‘beer-proof parkas’—designed with festival-goers in mind.
Oasis fans are set to be soaked in more than 2.2 million pints of beer this summer as the long-anticipated reunion tour kicks off — enough to fill a 25-metre swimming pool more than one and a half times over.
According to new research, gig-goers across the UK are expected to purchase around 8.7 million pints during the tour. Of those, a staggering 25% are predicted to be launched into the air in jubilant celebration.
That amounts to £16.5 million worth of beer lost to the skies during the sell-out shows — all in the name of rock ‘n’ roll revelry.
These boozy stats were uncovered by a team of statisticians who delved into original consumer research involving 2,000 UK adults, calculating just how many celebratory pints are likely to be sacrificed during the iconic band’s live comeback.
Throwing a pint in the air has become a time-honoured tradition of British summer events, regularly spotted at gigs, World Cups, and Euros alike.
Radio X Drive host Johnny Vaughan put the parkas to the test outside a London pub, confirming they can withstand even the rowdiest of beer showers.
Over three-quarters (77%) of fans surveyed said the Oasis reunion ranks among the most thrilling events of their lives, while 37% claimed that seeing the band again would match — or even top — their own wedding day in terms of unforgettable moments.
The band’s debut album, Definitely Maybe, remains a national favourite, taking 41% of the vote. And while this summer’s shows will focus on classic hits, 88% of fans say they’d love to hear new music from the Gallaghers.
Rain or shine, the enthusiasm isn’t fading — with 77% of fans saying they’d watch Oasis live no matter the weather. On average, they’d even endure nine hours in a downpour just to witness the long-awaited reunion in person.
Matt Deverson, Managing Editor of Radio X said, “We’ve created limited edition Radio X packable parkas to keep you beer-proofed and looking good during this summer of live music - including the biggest reunion gig in history! Because when pints start flying, we want to make sure you’re not wearing them. It’s just another way Radio X looks after the most passionate fans and listeners— especially when things can get messy.”
The limited edition run of 250 beer-proof parkas from Radio X are on sale at the Radio X Store for £28, with proceeds going to Radio X’s charity Global’s Make Some Noise.
