Another huge Gavin and Stacey star lands new series
Joanna Page, best known for her role as Stacey in the hit sitcom Gavin & Stacey, is set to return to our screens with a brand-new series, Shift the Thrift. BBC Daytime and BBC Cymru Wales have co-commissioned the 12x30-minute show, which will be produced by One Tribe and begin filming across the UK this September for BBC One and iPlayer, including six episodes based in Wales.
The series puts contestants in a high-stakes race against the clock to turn second-hand purchases into maximum profit. Each episode sees two participants scour charity shops for hidden gems, transform their finds with creative flair, and then sell them in live-streamed auctions—all under the guidance of Joanna Page, a passionate thrifter and upcycling enthusiast.
Every episode kicks off in a different UK town, with Joanna and two guest experts introducing a bespoke shopping list. Contestants must complete a localised scavenger hunt, customise at least one item with the help of Britain’s top social media upcyclers, and prepare a sales pitch before the fast-paced auction begins. Profits go to the contestants’ charity shop of choice, blending competition with community impact.
Joanna Page said: “I absolutely love charity shops and have been customising and upcycling clothes for years, so this show is right up my street. It’s fun, fast, and gives people great ideas on how to find value in second-hand treasure—all while supporting brilliant local causes.”
Owen Gay, Executive Producer and Co-Founder of One Tribe, added: “We’ve built a reputation for telling uplifting, people-focused stories across the UK, and this format lets us do that while championing sustainability and local causes. Charity shops are treasure troves full of stories, and we can’t wait for viewers to share in the thrill of the hunt and the buzz of the auction.”
Lindsay Bradbury, Commissioning Editor for BBC Daytime, described the series as “a timely celebration of creativity, sustainability and entrepreneurial spirit. This is a programme the whole family can enjoy together and might even inspire audiences to get out there and start thrifting.”
Julian Carey, Commissioning Editor for BBC Cymru Wales, added: “We love a bargain and the thrill of the hunt, and this series captures all the fun of rummaging for treasures. It’s also a celebration of our network of charity shops, which are vital to fundraising in Britain, and a brilliant model for sustainable, affordable shopping. It’s a warm-hearted, timely TV treat.”
The news comes hot on the heels of the news of James Corden and Ruth Jones's new series, 'The Choir'.
