Alley Cats: Introducing the new Netflix comedy from Ricky Gervais
Netflix has announced Alley Cats, a new adult animated comedy series created by Ricky Gervais, set to premiere in 2026.
The six-part, 15-minute series follows the lives of a gang of feral British cats as they search for companionship and muse on the frustrations of day-to-day existence. Known for its sharp wit and offbeat tone, the series promises Gervais’ trademark blend of humor, cynicism, and heart.
Animation for the 2D series is being handled by Blink Industries, with a stellar voice cast that includes Ricky Gervais himself, Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Diane Morgan, Natalie Cassidy, and Tony Way.
Gervais quipped: “I play a fat, lazy, rude, opinionated creature with fangs, who’s not as smart or brave as he thinks he is. So quite a stretch.”
The show is being executive produced by Gervais through his production company, Derek Productions, alongside Steven Hamilton Shaw of Shush Creative. Elliot Dear will co-direct.
Alley Cats extends Gervais’ long-running relationship with Netflix, which has already seen him create several high-profile projects for the platform. His critically acclaimed comedy-drama After Life ran for three seasons between 2019 and 2022, becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched British originals. He also fronted the stand-up specials Humanity (2018) and SuperNature (2022), both released globally to strong viewing figures, and his third Netflix special is currently in the works.
By branching into adult animation, Gervais adds another dimension to his creative output with Netflix, broadening a partnership that has already delivered some of the streamer’s most distinctive British content.
