Aimee Lou Wood’s new series Film Club set to debut on BBC Three and iPlayer this October
BAFTA-winning actor Aimee Lou Wood (Daddy Issues, Sex Education, The White Lotus) is stepping into the world of screenwriting with her new romantic comedy-drama, Film Club, which will premiere this October on BBC Three and iPlayer. The six-part series, co-created with Ralph Davis (House of the Dragon, Big Boys, Othello), offers a witty and heartfelt exploration of friendship, family, and first love.
What is Film Club about?
Film Club centres on Evie, played by Wood, whose weekly film nights are both a personal escape and a creative outlet. Transforming her mother’s garage to match each movie’s setting, Evie shares these immersive evenings with her best friend Noa (Nabhaan Rizwan, Kaos, In Camera). But as the series opens on Film Club Week 198, a life-changing announcement from Noa—a dream job across the country—forces the pair to confront feelings they’ve been avoiding for years.
Adding layers to Evie’s world is her eccentric and fiercely loving mother Suz (Suranne Jones, Vigil, Doctor Foster), her sister Izzie (Liv Hill, Three Girls, The Serpent Queen), and her charming boyfriend Josh (Adam Long, Happy Valley, Masters of the Air). Navigating family quirks, romantic tension, and the pangs of growing up, Evie’s story is both relatable and deeply moving.
Film Club cast
The series also features Arian Nik (Daddy Issues, Passenger) as Film Club member Kam, Fola Evans-Akingbola (The Night Agent, Back In Action) as Samantha, and co-creator Ralph Davis as Dominic, the newest addition to the group. Meanwhile, Owen Cooper (Adolescence, Wuthering Heights) plays Evie’s exasperating neighbour Callum, adding comedic sparks to the narrative.
Set in Manchester, where filming recently wrapped, Film Club blends humour, emotion, and the magic of cinema into six 30-minute episodes. At its heart, the series asks whether it’s possible to follow your heart without losing sight of who you are, and whether falling for a friend is the ultimate risk—or reward.
Where to watch Film Club
With its mix of heartfelt drama and witty comedy, Film Club promises to be a must-watch for fans of Aimee Lou Wood and contemporary British storytelling. The series will be available to stream from October on BBC Three and iPlayer.
